Who remembers the Berenstain Bears? Many people actually remember it as the Berenstein Bears. It’s part of the Mandela theory, or a term that someone is positive something happened although it didn’t. Many attribute these false memories as a glimpse into a parallel universe. (Source)
Ok nonononono fuck no I swear I have these on my shelf and I swear to god they say Berenstein, I am checking right now this cannot be real
WHAT THE FUCJK THEY ALL FUKCING SAY BERENSTAIN THEY DIDN’T SAY THAT WHEN i WAS A CHILD I DON’T UNDERSTAND. THIS CANNOT BE REAL, THIS CANNOT BE A THING
It was DEFINITELY Berenstein though, this is blowing my mind. If you had asked me before this moment I would have spelled it that way, and now I have like ten books on my shelf spelled like freaking Berenstain.
I told this to my bro who was also mind-blown by the idea, and he suddenly brought up the point, “HEY THERE WAS A TV SHOW MAYBE THATS WHERE WE HEARD BEREN STEEN or BEREN STINE OR WHATEVER and that’s why we spell it that way!”
No. No the tv show definitely pronounces it as Beren STAIN (with a slight country twang but still). IT’S UPSETTING ME BECAUSE I CANNOT EXPLAIN WHY I THOUGHT THIS MY ENTIRE LIFE.
I just found an email conversation from 2007 with my best friend who was WORKING IN A LIBRARY at the time and had mentioned “I am up to the C’s and have stuck all the BBSC/Berenstein Bears/Pony Club books on a turnstile”
I’m just baffled.
i kinda want to know for linguistic purposes where the people who misremember are from or which areas they grew up around/what other media they had during their formative years b/c as a canadian that false memory can totally be explained by vowel shifts (upwards!! aboot!!!)
